I have to disagree. I long for what might have been.
If you look at KTM they have never been all that solid of a company. Even lately they had problems trying to bring their liter sport bike to market. And their LC8 has not reached sales goals. KTM had hoped to match BMW’s sales. This did not happen. I owned an LC8 I think that it’s a very good bike. But with dealers who don’t think that the LC8 is a match for their lineup to just plan quality control problems with the first year and a half of production. The LC8 did not role off the floors.
Even now KTM undermines dealers by offering parts online.

I think that Polaris would have complemented KTM in many ways. I think that the partnership would have helped with QC problems. It would have expanded the dealer network. Where would have been more development money.

I think that it’s sad that KTM did not follow through with its commitment to Polaris. I fear that KTM will slide back into that company who is right on the edge. And we will suffer form that.

It would appear that Polaris Industries invested in Cross Industry's(KTM) to secure the cooperation and supply of certain KTM engines for certain Polaris ATV models. This has been accomplished and it appears that Polaris Industries has a will to convert its interest in Cross Industries to cash ,to be used in their current project of repurchasing a large ($200 million) block of their own common stock.
KTM has had a recent history of solid business success and also has a will to remain on its own path of product and financial development.
Sometimes it is important not to confuse the financial maneuvers of large corporations with their day to day production business.

I'm not sure about this. But earler this fall KTM anounced that the deal was off.

There were several motorcycle news rags that commented on this. In my limited search I came up with this link. ... ht=polaris
