Looking to buy a 1997 501 FE Any input?

The owner says it has less than 10 hours on it and it looks like it has even less than that. The bike is pristine and the price is right.

Are/were there any major issues with that year/model. I've had Jap bikes all my life, so this will be a new arena for me.

Any input appreciated.

if you like jap. refinement and typical durability, parts availability, dealership support, etc., and don't not want to change from that, then don't buy a husaberg, vor, or any small time niche manufacturer. Husabergs require more time, money, patience, and uhe (us) will most likely be your only resource. You would be safer to stay with jap. bikes.
I have a '97 fc501, and there are no exclusive to that year outstanding problems that I am aware of. It is the first year to use an oil pump, which actually doesn't do much in my opinion.
Where is this for sale and how much is it going for?

Hey Gary -

That's a 10 year old bike, and few on here really know much about them. In my opinion (I owned a '97 FX600e) it's a very good bike. Solid motor, great suspension. But it's gonna need maintenance. And if you're not a fully competent mechanic, it's not the bike for you. Ad to equation the dwindling supply of parts and it might just be more of a headache than you're bargining for...

I say pass on it and save your money for a 2004 or newer... that's when things really started come together for Husaberg.

I won't sell mine, at least not now!

I have a '97 FE501e, and I love the bike. If it runs. So far it does, 7 hours after the 2nd!! rebuild. Suspension and power delivery are incredible, but the bike is a real diva: oil changes after pretty much every day of riding, valve clearance every 10 hours, and I sure do hope that this rebuild lasts longer than the 25-30 hours the last one did ...

PS: Don't test-ride the bike: you will be hooked!

PPS: I just read 'the other' post: if your patience with an ancient Berg is comparable to your's demonstrated here, stay away. From both, the bike and the forum.

I have a '98 FX600 and i am building a '98Fe501, so I have more than a passing acquaintance with the early bergs and I advise you to pass. Get a later model.
