I just got back from a ride on this bike and have a small review: It handles very well and is really planted, also it feels lighter then my Beta 500 I'll have to side by side weigh them . Power is great for putting traction to the ground, there is very little compression braking compared to other 4t bikes and I prefer it like that, It does not have the front wheel lifting power of bigger or new bike bikes so it takes a little more finesse. I would say it has more power then a KTM 400 but not as much as a 450. I still need to add hand guards and a new seat cover along with some general maintenance, but I am very happy with this bike and I am sure it has a lot of hrs of fun left in it.
Taffy sells them. Kibblewhite sells them (same as KTM 450 smr) and there's a KTM equivalent though I do not have the part number at my fingertips.

I do a bespoke jetting kit for these with 4 angles of taper on the needle. 100820 in the web shop. I also do the DVSK, it was myself that started the trend (I didn't invent it....just the trend) back in 2003.

the jetting kit, a stronger auto decomp spring, a 'starter repair kit' to lock the starter gears and the DVSK are about all that are needed. the 2004 has 2 other things.

I think Taffy also does a waterpump seal upgrade too, he just forgot to tell ya .

Little tweaks that are not that expensive that really improve the bike. Workshop manuals with torque specs and all the other info you are seeking are available elsewhere on this site (2004-2008 almost all the same).

I'd show you where, but it is likely better that you poke around the site to get an idea of just how much info is out there and already addressed. I still say this is the best forum on the web regardless of mfg. Yeah, there is the occasional flame war and disagreement, but some seriously quality bike advice available here and worth checking out.

What other two things? I have an 07 FE450. What does the DVSK do? Starter repair kit, lock the starter gears? What is the result of that? My bike starts kick only when cold but button used when engine warm. Have your jetting kit, need to install.

The 2004s had the clutch drum upgraded twice afterwards. They also improved the shape of the cam chain tensioner blade to give more support against the chain.

the DVSK are a pair of softer valve springs than the one hard valve spring. Husabergs suffer from bad valvegear wear on the 1989-1003s and aren't so fantastic after this either!

the gears that turn the engine that sit between the starter and the crank slip. there are two of them. the kit repairs them.

cheers

Taffy
