New to posting thread and forum, 2011 FE390 questions

new to posting thread so sorry if I'm in the wrong section. I recently purchased a 2011 FE390,love the bike, but was thinking of running hare scrambles was debating on a steering damper, recluse clutch and ECU map. Does anyone have experience with any of these mods? worth it? any suggestions on suspension set up 6'2" 190 lbs. also confused on map switch available. does ECU come with 3 map settings from factory?? why didn't every bike have a switch if that was the case?? mine does not have a switch, is it just a matter of buying and hooking up a switch or more to it? I assume there are install videos. Thanks!!
Thanks from jewcati

ok I see the switch and I've seen them before, but still leaves the question does bike have a factory 3 level map and does it simply only require a switch?? 2011 FE390

To activate the aggressive or soft mode all you need is a resistor (or two if you want to create your own switch).

FE570 Map Switch

I would recommend to make your own as you cant switch maps on the fly and no fancy switch is really needed imho. And the ktm switch is overpriced crap. If I were you I would use the indicator switch or make my own.

The stock map have the three modes. Plug in the correct ohm resistance into the connection to test it.

Taamatrix, why didn’t you buy a 450 you whacker?

Ok, if you want to perk it up a bit, buy the piggyback tuner for your ECU. JD or EJK. Same thing different sticker.

Cut back the seat and/or the radiator shrouds to let more air in these very restricted bikes. Along where the seat meets the shrouds is where you cut them back. You’ll see a raised lip along the shroud. Pull back the seat cover along this area also. Cut back along here about 1/2”. This should give a view of the filter from both sides. Good.

Open up the muffler. Make it straight through or go with an A/M muffler.

All this will help the bike breath as it should do. The tuner will fuel the bike as required.

As Jon said, use the indicator switch. You can buy copies off the likes of eBay. Take this switch section off and add it to your switch block if you need to keep the indicator switch for such. I doubt you will notice any difference between maps. I’d just aim for the aggressive map and be done with it.

Al.

thanks for the tips guys. didn't buy the 450 because a good deal came across on this barely used 390 and I jumped on it, wasn't even looking at Husaberg until I found this deal on Craigslist. Glad I did get it though, great bike. I have a FMF 4.1 for it and was going to have a local KTM/Husky race shop map it for me, should be good to go then. I'm just trying to get the most potential out the bike has, why not? if it's in there wake it up right. I'll investigate the piggy back tuner, first I'm hearing of that
Thanks from Alan

The beauty of the piggy back tuner is you can take it from bike to bike, make adjustments as needed.

It’s not a hard task to turn it into a 450 also. They use the KTM piston kit and gaskets, or even a 500!

A 450 crank will turn it into a 450 (and a 450 ecu map). The stroke and map are the only differences between 390/450.

But I really like 390s, wonderful at single track.

If you only will go aggressive setting just push a 6.8k ohm resistor into the plug, secure it with tape or something.

yea I'm happy with the 390, it handles like a 250 on the trails and tights. haven't had a chance to climb any mountains yet as I live in Florida. ok rookie question, the white two post clip with a black cap on it under the seat is what we"re talking about. when I pulled the black cap off there is already a resistor between the two leads, does this mean previous owner already did this aggressive setting mod??? would it have no resistor if it was stock? I don't know how to post a picture here or I would.
