New to bergs..

Hi all. Just got my first berg. its a 2000 fe400e. Best part is it was free..... I expected it to be a piece of crap, but the guy was clueless what he had. It was titled in south dakota, i live in ny and am hoping to make it street legal. It doesnt run at the time, been sitting since 07. Saw intake manifold is cracked, ordered one for a post i saw on the forum. First non jap bike, very intrested in what people have to say about them. From what im looking at the bike seems 5 to 7 years ahead of its time. It was bought at dakota plains polaris, accoring to the sticker. Anyway, i have a few questions.

- pulled the seat, air filter is clean but falling apart. I ordered one and saw in a manual (1999) that there may be 2. I only see one

- Is there pre existing wiring for t sigs or will i need to do all that myself?

- The fork seals weep. I found a manual for the engine but none for suspension. Its a wp shock not sure about the forks. Specs for air gap and oil type/quantity?

- Anything to look for when i remove and go through the dellorto carb? Whats the black knob that you can pull out, turn 1/4 turn and it sticks out. Has a slot under it. Choke? Hot start?

- Where can i get valve clearence specs. Im reading different numbers all over the place

- Last, one or 2 oil filters? I see one and a screen. Some listings offer 2 filters. One short one long.
Heres a pic after serious scrubbing and wd40

there's only one spec on tappets so i think you believe everything and nothing. everyone here says the same thing: a sixth of a turn.

air gap 120mm 5w, about 490cc per leg and suck it off. forks are 48mm WPs.

Thank you, bit of an update. Carb was solid with crap, stem for the starter circut was broke when someone tried to remove. Brazed it together. Took hours of air gun and carb clean to clean starter and pilot. Broken t for dual petcocks. Replaced lines and t. Jumped from battery i had laying around runs flawless... Set valves to .004 because that number never fails. Rode it 20 minutes im in love with it. Only problem, how does the battery come out. Had carb off wouldnt fit out the top. Its a ytx9 yuasa. Thanks for everything. Read manual on forks but they dont give a spec so that was very helpful

I don't know if this applies to yours but on my 05 took off top shock bolt. Tied shock back and with a little playing around the battery comes right out.

Since you have a battery this is an easy way to add turn signals only.
