Blocking fuel injector fe450. Fix/workaround

So a while back my injector blocked and after stripping down and cleaning with carb cleaner and a 9v battery etc I thought I'd best look at a solution.

The fuel rail didn't have the tiny filter insert and having read online it caused more problems than it fixed I decided against it and just put it all back together.

Bikes been fine for a few rides and had a really long one planned today so thought I best sort it. I ordered some fuel rail filters and fitted. Halfway into my ride I started loosing power and stalling. Figured it had got blocked already so managed to pull the fuel line and remove the filter. It looked pretty clean... Struggled to get the fuel line back on with freezing hands and fired it up. Was the same. Had to limp home.

So either the filter didn't work, too much crap had already got into the injector and was a coincidence that fitting the filter caused the issue or I some how pushed some crap in when fitting it.

Getting to the filter in the field with basic tools is frustratingly difficult. So what do people suggest? I guess i need some kind of inline filter to protect the injector and that's also easy to get to in the field.

Appreciate the help

10 micron Super Mini Golan. I installed it after the quick disconnect. This filter can be opened, cleaned and re-used.

I also have an EFI purge module home to be installed in my motard. As it's still on my bench so I can't say too much about it but have a look: EFI PURGE MODULES - KTM and HUSABERGKen and Kevin Allen, QLD, AUSTRALIA PH: +61448833751 - Home

+1 on Jon's answer

That purging unit makes sense! Thanks for that info!

... I'd also wager a guess that some crap from the line was part of the cause. (If you were installing an inline filter?) I know I blocked my DRZ's carb with small gunk from a new fuel line the other day. Fresh high-quality hose. I'm sure that an EFI system is more sensitive to the little crumbs that fall out from cutting the line and the prodding and poking.

To be sure -Which filter did you get, Mordzy?

Just a note on cleaning the fuel injector. Be very careful cleaning as carb cleaner will damage a fuel injector if soaked for long periods. Carb cleaner is very harsh as it can melt plastics that make up the injector and cause failure, it can also plug the injector with the varnish it dissolves. Carb cleaner can also remove special coatings on throttle bodies that are required for air flow designs, It is recommended to use something not as harsh like throttle body cleaner, mass air flow cleaner etc. Throttle body cleaner is sold in a can the same as carb cleaner. The carb cleaner will remove varnish left from fuel in one spray and anything else in its way as the throttle body cleaner removes only the carbon deposits and dirt.
Thanks from Rainerio

Thanks guys.

It was an OE KTM part as recommended by my local dealer. I don't remember the part number but this is what it looks like

I know what you mean about carb cleaner it melted my gloves lol

I'll have a look at the purge kit. It's so annoying having to strip the tank off and not practical when out and about
