Increased 570 Engine Intake Runner Length

A while back, someone posted this thesis which I finally had a chance to read. It was very well done by a student who took an FE570 engine and optimized the intake. Page 67 shows the improvement of his tuned intake vs. stock and page 62 shows the effect of varying the lengths of the intake runner. He extended the intake track by 120mm. , which optimized performance at 8000 rpm, however, it appears that a 60mm. extension would work better overall, and especially at 5000 rpm where power was increased by an amazing 20%!

My question is, could this be as simple as installing a 60mm. longer rubber intake boot between the throttle body and intake port as shown on page 15?

Who wants to be the first to try it and see? I would certainly do it, but my bike is at my Cabin now and I can't get in until next month after the snow melts.

I use an airfilter box from a 390 on my 570 as that one has an intake trumpet making the intake runner lenght ~60mm longer.

Jon is your 390 air box part # 81206026000 ? Just had a thought that the extra 60mm will keep water out of my intake on deep/high speed water crossings!

I see so there is a rubber trumpet/tube that is part of the 390 airbox itself that makes the intake 60mm longer if you get such good results from this I wonder why hsb didn't test/do this there self???
This seems to be to good to be true

Take a look at what the grad student had to model and then simulate to predict the increased torque. A caveat is that he didn't have a dyno available to confirm his findings, nor would his results in the student race car be applicable since they were required to run a restrictor. Husaberg's engineers may simply not have put too much design time into optimizing the intake length and it appears that way since they made it about as short as it can be.

The info about that airbox comes inofficially from a husaberg engineer. My friend talked to one and he was told that that airbox will make it a bit nicer. I have no numbers or real data to compare with but I have the impression it did help.

And another reason to do it is to keep dirt and water out. That is reason enough for me.
Thanks from tourist
