What's so great about Husaberg?

Now that I have your attention...I am new here. I am currently riding a 2008 CRF450R for woods riding(Canadian Rockies) I am going to switch to an enduro bike. I was leaning towards a KTM450XCW, Dirt Bike named it "bike of the year". It would have to be a 2013 because the '12's are gone. But Husaberg has always been in the back of my mind. Could you fellas(or gals) give me some unbiased reasons why I would want a 'berg(FE450) over a KTM? If not, biased will do. And don't say because they look cooler(because I think they do too).

OK......That is an example of BIASED! But that brings up an interesting piont, I do not race, but I ride with a lot of punks in there twenties, so sometimes it feels like a race. Is heavier better?

I own a 2010 FE570. My mate recently bought a 2012 EXC500. I have ridden his and they are both very capable bikes but it has to be said that my 570 has it all over the 500 in both power and handling. Just my biased opinion though! All I can say is be careful when buying a berg, once the brand is in your blood you wont shake it. I bought my first berg from a friend years ago not really knowing much about them. That was a 99 FE400, since then I have owned an 07 FE550 and now I have the 570.

Re: What's so great about Husaberg?

My Opinion
You need to ride one the see how great they are.
I owned an 07 CRF 450R. Same as your 08. I rode it on track and woods. Light and nimble but not a smooth
single track bike. I've ridden other bikes as well
CRF250X, CRF450X, CR500, KX450F,YZ450F,
KTM 520EXC, Husaberg 06 FE450, 05 FE650 and FE570.
The 570 felt the best and didn't feel heavy. To me it's the fuel injection response and the
way it turns so well. Like a point and shoot feel in the corners.
Besides the 570, I believe the previous generation Bergs are better than the rest in most off road
conditions.
Why? Because they are stable runners. I rode back to back the 02 EXC520 and 06 FE450 with similar set ups and the FE450 is more of a planted bike and turns better.
I haven't ridden the new FI KTM500 so I can't say how much better it is that it's previous generations. I hope its much better because the last 2 generation Husabergs an the CRF 450X both handled better than the 02 520.

Very helpful so far, I'm sure the FE's and XCW's are loads better than an mx bike for trail riding. The 450XCW is supposed to be way better than the 500(according to Dirt Bike and Chilly White) I'm sure if I bought a berg it would be love at first ride. Thanks for the opinions so far!

First, you will not get as tired riding a berg vs riding a motocross based bike. Second the handling is very stable. Third, you will not have as many maintenance issues because the bergs are built well. Other than chain and sprockets, you will barely touch the thing. The last and best thing is that it is such a tractor that it is hard to stall it and will go through technical terrain very easily.

Are the FE450 and 570 identical except for displacement. I am 6'3", 225lbs, could use a couple more ponies to haul me around. And yes I am sure they are better than an mx bike, but why are they better than KTM. It is interseting to see the 'hate on' you Berg owners have for KTM. It would be like somebody loving their Silverado, but hating GM.

Re: What's so great about Husaberg?

Each has their own opinion. And your asking the question here on a Husaberg website. Of course we like the Husabergs the most or we wouldn't own them.
I guess you would need to ride one for yourself and compare to the KTM.
I'm sure some like the orange bike more.
I rode the 2011 FE570 and was very impressed. Although I haven't ridden the new KTM 450 xcw as you were
asking about I would like to try it and even be impressed with it.
I'm not afraid to tell it how it is and whether I like it .
Remember, that up until now they do share parts like hardware, suspension brand an various other components.
But the motors and chassis have been unique which makes the biggest difference in how the bike handles and
performs.

Re: What's so great about Husaberg?

Hi had an 06 450 Husky before I traded it for a 390Fe model, for a start the closed cartridge suspension on the Burg gives the front end such a planted feel that even though the Husky had what I thought was dilled suspension the WP out performs it hands down, I was also a little worried about power as I kinda down graded to a smaller machine but with the EFI the power delivery is so smooth and low down torque instant that I am faster, less exhausted and love the new bike 10 fold. tight rocky hill climbs that we get here in S.A even if you fluff it and need to start half way up the climb this bike is so gentle on pull offs it just climbs. Like all the rest say you gotta ride one before you make your mind up. Power.
