a collection of 09 FE450 issues!

right, few issues with the recently purchased 09 450......

yesterday was out doing some fairly technical moorland riding, quite a bit of rev'ing, clutching, carrying, pulling, pushing and plenty of water,
this was fine for about a hr and then the bike went on its side in about 4-6 inches of water, didnt draw any in but was a fair old splash over the majority of the bike. fired straight back up but then started fluffing.... id describe it as a carb'd bike with water in the main jet, would tick over but not pick up?
this went on for 15-20mins, eventually after leaving the bike layed on its side for 3-4 mins on a grass bank whilst helping a mate the problem seemed to have been cured?
any help???
are there any mods for plugs, caps, waterproofing the bike?

also suffering for grip on the rear, got a new comp3 140 rear, running approx 10/12psi but seems to just dance all over the place and struggle on climbs? sag is set at approx 100mm on the rear and has a heavier spring installed? any help?
ive got a mapping switch and for the tight technical slippery riding ive done recently ive got it on the soft setting which did help slightly, and before anyone says it i havent come off a crf230, ive always had big 4 stroke bikes and race enduro/mx sidecars so am used to it moving around.

finally are the radiators on the bergs the same as the ktms of the same age? need a right hand rad, (one with the filler) as the one on the bikes taken a decent sized impact.

thanks in advance!!!

We run Michelin S12 with 9 lbs here on the Pacific Northwet and they hook up well.
The only thing better on rocks and roots is a trials tire.
Make sure your air filter is well oiled and keep the bike above water otherwise I recommend a boat.

+1 on the Michelin. I discovered some poorly insulated connectors that lead to the coil, I soft sealed the hell out of them, can ride with the tip of the front mudguard in water. There are some good posts on here about waterproofing your 09 especially buy member daleEO

Hi Johnniep,

don't give up on that radiator. with a big clamp and two pieces of angel iron you can straighten the radiators.
clamp the radiator using the protruding edges of the upper and lower collector chambers (have no better discription)
using a right angeled piece of heavier steel (a bar) and a hammer, gently tick & straighten the sides back to the former position.

And yes, it's a KTM part number.

The little tool bag thats comes originally with the Berg has a spark plug wrench that can be used in combination with a 13mm wrench.
the sparkplug is a 14mm type and it is laying deep. it is hard to get to with the radiator in place.

your describtion of the water problem doesn't ring-a-bell, sorry.
