2012 Te 300 transmission oil???

Sooooo just got round to my first transmission oil change for my 2012 TE 300 (Which is ballistic btw :P) and read in the owners manual that Husaberg recommend using Top Speed 4t 15w/50 motorex oil, but the oil recommended is 4 stroke oil, can anyone shed some light on this for me, and maybe recommend another oil, or let me know whether this oil is ok to use or not. Thanks in advance, kind regards Willyboy

An oil thread

4 strokes dirt bikes mostly have wet clutches and gearboxes in a combined sump, so if it lubes the engine, it also lubes the clutch and gearbox, so fine for 2 stroke clutches and gearboxes too. To save some $ you can use LSD car oil which is also designed for wet clutches and gears and bearings. I use Mobil SHC ID 80w140 synthetic in my IT175 which works fine. 80w90 is fine too. Note that gearbox oil viscosities are different to engine ones, ie I'm lead to believe that 80w140 gear oil is close to 20w60 engine. In fact you can get multi purpose oils mostly intended for agricultural use that are fine in engines, gearboxes and hydraulic systems. I used to use Castrol Agri MP in my old tractor engine, gearbox and hydraulic system, and assorted pumps and generators.

Thanks for the reply Steve.

I guess if its ok ill just use what the company recommends, its just funny they'd recommend a 4 stroke oil for a 2 stroke bike, but as you said, they do the same job in both engines. Well thanks again for the reply.

If anyone has used the Motorex Top Speed 4t 15w/50 oil for their Te, problem free, feel free to post and lemme know, just for that peace of mind

Kind regards Willyboy

So you'd be happier if they recommended a 2 stroke oil for the gearbox? 2 stroke oils are for mixing with petrol and then lubricating rolling element bearings and piston rings and then being burnt, not for wet clutches and continuously being chewed up by gears. Could try some I suppose.

There are lots of specific 2t transmisson oils out there.
I like the Bel Ray 80w but there are lots to choose from.

I use Shell Rotella in my 300 and 570 because Rekluse recommends it in the auto clutch. I proved that they were correct after using other oils that did not work as well with the clutch. It is well known that Shell probably has the highest quality base oil stock, it is really reasonably priced and I really dont believe a 2 stroke motorcycle is difficult to properly lubricate as long as the oil resists a moderate amount of shear and works with the wet clutch. If it makes you feel good to spend extra for synthetics, feel free but it is unnecessary.
