To buy or not to buy 1999 FE400.

I have the opportunity of purchasing a 1999 FE400 with only 3000kms on the clock and in good original condition with full service history. Being new to the brand what should I be aware of as in pitfalls and well known problems with this model bike.Cheers.

Thanks for that I have just gone through the owners doc but it only seems to cover from 2001 and up , is there much difference between a 1999 and a 2001 ?.

Buy it!

It`s the best engine Husaberg has ever made (imho), have 2 400 and 2 501, 99-00 and i love them.
Just change the camfolower/cam bearings and camchain if it`s worn and don`t rew if too hard and it will last forewer ;-) at least 300-500h.
The hydraulic operated clutch came -00
The clutch, carb are same up to 2003 and most of the gearbox i think, but rest of it i totaly changed after -00.
Regards
Jampe

I agree with Jampe, It's really a good engine, I have a 99 FE 501 and a 2000 FC501. When working on the bike, use 2 manuals, the correct one for your bike and the newer one from maybe 2002 or so as although some things are different they are pretty close and the newer manual is much better in describing it all.

i guess the cost is a factor but i see none listed.
there were some major changes shortly after that year but not all of them are for the better.
here you have time tested and proven motor design and that cc isnt gonna be destroying the motor itself.
the riding position allows more sure footed, flat footed riding and you are more seating 'in' rather than 'on' the bike.
what are the forks? 50mm extremes?
also, i think that has linkage for the shock which i think is a good thing.
you must be able to do some wrenching yourself but its all pretty straightforward and basic.
you may have starting issues. set the choke-jet/start-jet or just get an adjustable choke cable/knob like the old atk.
