570SM to be dropped

this is the tittle-tattle that I have had come my way.

I believe it's based on the foolish premise that there's no SM now and the 'need' and 'desire' has gone. WELL FOR YEARS WE SCREAMED THAT 450 WAS TOO BIG, and they said but 450 is the MX and EWC cc class limit, they said there was no need for a 350 or a 400 but they were wrong weren't they! the 400EXC is a big hit and ta 350 won the world title!

so, for 2012 Husaberg are dropping their street and SM model 570s and therefore anything else that goes with it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS DECISION?

I think if it had been made as at least a 620 it would still be selling strong! alas it isn't the big motor that Husaberg have built a reputation for! the whole engine was built 60cc too small. it should have been a 450 at the smallest and a 630 at best. then they should have built a phenominal little 250-350 LDC as well.

and if that engine is so sweet why stop at SM? why not an actual roadbike?

Oh well!

regards

I also disagree with dropping the SM even though I don't ride them. They were cool.
And yes I agree they should have kept a larger displacement over 600. Like 620.
And another good idea would be to make a larger bore 2 stroke than the 300
Like a 400.

Re: 570SM to be dropped

In my workshop here I reckon 70% of my customers are 650SM streetbike riders. they spend way more on their bikes than the dirt boys. I'd like to know what the production figures are for a year and I'd guess at : not many and at the end of the day that is what has killed it.

without SM as a vehicle there are no sales. also all the dealers advertise in the dirt papers etc and NOT MCN and the other road rags. so the whole thing over here dies when SM stops.

It also means that eventually all the 570's will be converted to street use....including mine!

Perhaps that is the plan. Cut down on production and dealer flooring costs. You want one, you build it. Husaberg will be happy to supply the parts.

I'm hopeful that there will be a lot leftover and one will be able to pick one up cheap in the near future

I do think it's a shame that they are being dropped from production................I know of one that was recently purchased at Gunnison Motorsports in Colorado, then the owner rode the bike to the Super Cross final in Las Vegas, a 1600 mile round trip with no issues.

Re: 570SM to be dropped

My point would be this: look at the history. the 650 as a road bike has been a phenominal success over here in the UK and all around europe. the mistake isn't the SM part, the mistake is the "five seventy cee-cee" part.

I don't have the time to do everything, I'm just swallowed up in trying to keep the old stuff going but I would love to see what these could be bores and stroked to....

oh Well!a typical case of: "they never gave it their best shot so they'll never know will they!"

Good news for me though, makes my 650SM that bit more desirable and valuable.
