2010 570 hard to start initially

Mine is very reluctant to start cold. It takes 4 or 5 attempts at the button to get the bike to start. I usually have to twist the throttle a bit, let off and hit the button again. I saw that someone here had the same problem with a 390 and basically was told to take it back to the dealer. Once my bike warms up is starts readily.

Any ideas OTHER than takeing it back to the dealer, which I will do if no one has any ideas?

Try turning the idle up a few clicks.

Just to add to Bergers reply, you can try this too:
Pull the black plastic idle screw towards you, you will feel it clicks out a notch. This lets more air in the Throttle Body and helps with cold starts and helps it idle quicker when warming up. Leave it clicked out while you get your gear on and the bike is warming up, then press it back in before you take off.

Also, before you start the bike just hit the starter once so you can hear the fuel pump run. Wait till you hear the fuel pump stops running then start it. This builds pressure up in the fuel line before you try to start it.

Great choice of bike you have made sir

I haven't tried turning up the idle as it idles fine but I'll try that. Pulling out the black button doesn't seem to do anything. I haven't been able to ever start it with the button out. When I say cold start I mean the engine is cold. The outside temp is 90.

I made this video for a better explaination. Is this normal? Outside temp was 85 degrees F.

Well, I don't have a 570 and was going to say my 2010FE450 was having similar issues, but then I watched your video. I'm not seeing anything like that. I'd get it to the dealer. Mine will fire immediately, then die. I think originally it was due to the idle being too low. I actually had some odd surging, because I think the computer was trying to compensate for the low idle.

Anyway, I got that sorted. Idle seems a bit high, but it's steady. I just did my first oil change, so will have a better idea if my cold start has gotten any better. I should have dumped the gas when I got home from the dealer, who knows how long that's been sitting in the tank. It'll fire up, run for a second, then die. I have to give it just a little gas to keep it going, but like I said, it already seems to be improving, the more I start it. I think I'm working through some bad gas and I think having the break-in oil out will help.

No it's normal per se. However, I rarely pull the button out on my bike to get it started.

Have you tried turning the idle up yet? If so did that help?

Have you tried starting it without the button out? For the temps you are describing I think pulling the button out may not be helping.

Did the dealer put the competition map in it for you?

Last idea, make sure the battery terminals are tight.

I had that problem once....just once.....
I serviced the air filter with PJ1. Pulled the air filter and it started fine. Went back to UNI air filter oil and cleaner, no problem. You can over oil the air filter and get a hard start as well.

Re: 2010 570 hard to start initially

MrSmooth, did you ever get this figured out? I just bought a 2011 FE 570s and am having the same exact problem you had in your video with one additional complication. Sometimes when I push my start button, it won't even turn over, it just clicks like I have a dead battery. I can then let off and push it again and it will turn over like yours, but not start... This has just been really annoying as eventually it always started, but on my recent trip, I actually ran out of battery before it would start... Annoying turned into pure frustration about not being able to start my brand new bike... Luckily, this was at camp and we were able to jump start it using jumper cables and luckily I was able to ride it all day after that as once it is warm, it starts right up... When I bought the bike, the dealer told me that this was normal for these bikes and it goes away after a couple hundred miles, which seemed very odd, but I made the assumption/potential mistake of trusting him... I now have 300 miles (11 hours) on the bike with no improvement... Any information or ideas would greatly be appreciated!

Mine did get a bit better. I normally hit button quickly then crack the throttle just barely and hit it again. Usually that does it. It still starts better hot than cold.
