FE501 US parts availability?

I'm seriously thinking picking up a '97 FE501. How is the parts availability for these in the states at this time? I don't mind working on my bikes but I don't want to end up in a situation where I have a bike that's impossible to find parts for.

TIA.

don't let that turn you off buying euro. i would prob look at a later model bike tho. 97-99 mod bikes are never gonna be cheap to keep going especially when you don't know how the bikes been maintained.

leave the older bikes for the enthusiasts who have the time, money and love for these machines.

Your gonna be hit and miss on the parts. Between dealer stock and ebay you should be able to keep one running. Will every part be readily available and new......no. If you want a project, you found one. If it's going to be your only bike and you need it every weekend, you may need to look elsewhere.

That's the best advise I can give you brother.

Re: FE501 US parts availability?

while they are being broken (yard sale) you'll be ok but you can't get a rod kit for them nowadays. there is a way around it if it's a routine rebuild but if it's knackered it will be very tricky. i can get 95% of the engine stuff. plastics are no longer available ummm? all the consummables can still be had...

How are the parts prices? Comparable to Japanese stuff?

Sorry if I'm being a bit blunt but I don't want to be "stuck" with something that I didn't bargain for. So what I Am hearing is most likely I'd be working on it allot?

Sorry for the blunt reply, but you should find another bike. A '97 Berg with an unknown history should never be considered as a viable option for a bike you just grab out of the shed and go ride. When this bike was at it's pinnacle of popularity, it was unlikely that you could get a part for it with little trouble. I spent a lot of hours on the phone in the latter '90's finding parts for people in the states, sometimes having to go outside the US to get them.

I predict you being very angry at us if we influence you to purchase this bike.

thanks,
