Exhaust Wrap

I got tired of melting my riding pants on the hot pipe of my '05 FE550e and wrapped the headers and mid-pipe with a 1" x 50' roll of black exhaust wrap. It took 14' of wrap to do the right side header and 31' to do the left side and mid-pipe. Then you cure the material with engine heat and spray on a special ceramic coating for water proofing. They make this coating in silver or black and the black looks great on the Berg. Cost is about fifty bucks, cheaper and more funtional than a heat shield.

That'll work for a while, but header wrap is very hard on motorcycle exhaust pipe. It speeds up corrosion x 10, even with the coating, moisture will get into the wrap the first time it is exposed to any water.

Anyway, many previous discussions here on heat wrap, pro and con. It does work well for heat control, but there is a downside you should be aware of.

Yes, I am aware of the corrosion issue and that is why I never wrapped her before. Thought I'd try out the coating and never leave her wet after a hard ride. Her headers and mid-pipe were getting pretty ugly from all the melted nylon & rubber and my efforts to clean them. She gets an akro if I'm wrong.
