Engine stops when I open throttle quickly

Hi!

First I have to say that I'm complete newbie with fourstrokes..

I Just bought an 2006 Fe450 it works very nicely exept engine stops when opening throttle quickly. I opened and cleaned the acceleration pump from carburator but that did not solve problem. Where to go next or what screw should I adjust?

hello Alepos,
complet newby and directly buying a husaberg ?!
I just bought my 550 fe 07 and on some little fuel problems ( see my question).

at what rpm you open quickly ? idling ?
What rpm is your motor idling ? first regulate with the big black knob on the right side of the carb (regulates the slide).
SO you can first try the carburation. Maybe engine is running too lean in lower rpm.
under the keihin carb (in front) there is a bronze mixture control screw.
Turning in and out gives less or more air to the fuel/air mixture.
According to standard settings it should be opened 1,5 turns.

first control this and seek a better gasresponse with the combination of mixture screw and gasslide.

You may want to try reducing the main jet.

Do not forget that when you adjust your carb, it is often better to make one change at a time instead of changing several jets, needles and clip adjustment all at once.

You may also want to contact Dale Lineaweaver, he sells jet kits and also works on Husaberg carbs, Dellortos and Keihins alike.

welcome my freind, good to have you here! we have many finns that are members!

ignore froggy he is talking out of his arse again!

all you need to do is open the 'fuel screw (FS)' under the carb by 1 full turn or maybe 1.5 turns. this is anti-clockwise. ok?

you must get ther engine warm and test it as well.

regards

Taffy

Taffy, I see you're still the nicest fellow on this board.

Adjusting the FS can help but what he's got is symptomatic of too big of a main jet.

One good investment for fuel screw adjustment is a Zip-Ty Racing Fuel Screw.

Now, Taffy, try to be nice once in a while.

Thanks fellows for tips and wellcomes!

I was a littlebit nervous with my new bike when I posted my question! I regulated idling to littlebit higher RPM and screwed that fuel screw to 1.5 turns from bottom. I can still stop the engine when i open throttle very fast when idling. But it seems that it is not a problem while driving it, gasresponse is ok while driving! Bike was standing few months in dealers hall before i bought it, maybe there's old gas in tank etc. And its also winter here but not so cold now. BTW, my friend's FE450 acted same way when we tested to open throttle fast from idling.

I can live with this, not a problem while bike is moving, maybe it works ok in summer

Greetings Alepos, and welcome to the site,

Congrats on your purchase of the 06 450!! You will find that if you go to the fuel section there are many threads on jetting.

So your engine dieing problem when opening the throttle quickly, does it only happen on the stand? If going slowly in 1st gear and you snap it open will it die then?

Other than Taffy's advice, an easy fix for this is to raise the needle one clip position, that is to say lower the clip on the needle. And I think what Taffy was saying was to open the fuel screw a full turn from where it was originally set. So you could try opening the fuel screw another turn from where you are at now to 2.5 turns out.

You mentioned that it had been sitting at the dealer for some months, you might pull the jets out of the carb and give them a thorough cleaning as well. Is this a new bike or a used one?

If you have any questions don't be nervous about asking.

I was about to say the same as Dale: pull the carb and clean the jets. Your gasoline may be a bit old and gasoline does have a shelf life that makes it less efficient with carbureted engines. Drain your tank and put that gas in your car or truck, then add fresh premium from the pump.

Thanks for your hints again all of you!

I will remove and clear that keihin next time i go to carage. I look also types of needle and jets so its littlebit easier to say are they even close normal.. Sorry about my incomplete information while asking but hopefully i'm slightly wiser after weekend.

Bike was not brand new but it has been used less than year, there is 29h and 1300km in gauge. I will also drain that tank and fill it with fresh gas because it can be from last summer. Hopefully some of these tips you gave to me wil help! But as I said, it was ok to drive and it is not my normal use to throttle it in one place!
