2011 570 cutting out

Guys

I've seen all the posts regarding pumps, injectors, plugs causing similar problems, so before I start paying big bucks for parts, I'd appreciate advice.....

Symptoms:

The engine randomly dies, cold or hot. Fuel has been changed, as has the in-line fuel filter (it was clean). New plug on order but current one looks 'OK'.

Happened first at the end of a ride yesterday, it cut out for 1-2 secs when pulling away (swiftly) then cut back in and ran OK. It had backfired (popped) a couple of times in the day, which was slightly unusual. In summary:

1) randomly dies on throttle, but (so far) has always started fine (first button push) and idles just fine
2) seems to be OK on a light throttle, it went for 1-2 miles on light throttle with no issue
2) open her up..... dies after say 3 secs on the gas.... just dies (as if you've hit the kill switch).... if you keep throttle at same position, it picks up again after 1-2 secs.... then dies again shortly after

It's all a little random..... all advice welcome, including any static sensor diagnostic info (I have a multi-meter).

I read somewhere you can test the fuel pump (valve?) but blowing up the fuel pipe to see if you can blow by the pump, I could not sense anything when I tried this.

Also, does anyone tell me a) how to get the throttle position plug off and b) if there is a calibration of the position of this sensor, if so, how is it done (by a home mechanic)?

Thanks in advance

Chris

OK..... thought I'd found the fault, but clearly not. Its now a little more predictable:

- Ride on a light throttle, all ok
- open up (say half throttle) and after a short while (3-5 seconds) it dies (like hitting the kill switch)
- after 2-3 seconds picks up again
- if you keep throttle open, dies again, picks up again, dies again (2-3 secs between each)

Fuel starvation..... mate said there's a filter IN the tank, not tried that yet.

All help and advice welcome..... fuel pump?

Need to fix by the weekend as I'm due out on it.... if I can get to a dealer with diags I will, otherwise may just have to throw some money at fitting the most likly parts....

Thanks in advance

Chris

Sounds alot more like electrical rather than fuel to me.
Have you checked all your connections? Earth connection?
If it's dying like the kill switch is on then I'd definatly be looking at electrics. Loose connection that makes contact when at low revs but when the momentum of opening the throtle kick in it is arcing out or loosing the connection.

Just my thoughts and I'm no mechanic.

Update.... I think you're correct...

Battery terminal 'fell apart' when I checked it. Fitted new battery (battery was good, but terminal post had broken). Went for a ride, no sign of original fault, then it stopped and would not restart (pushed bike back.....)

No 12v on fuel pump (when its supposed to be running). Rang dealer, he suggested checking the the connections to the 'small relay' above the throttle body as he see's lots of intermittent problems due to that connector getting dirty and corroding... cleaned. Now have 4.7 volts on pump terminals (should be 12v). F1 had blown, replaced.... 12v on pump terminal and running OK..... so far so good!!!

Not sure if original fault was the dirty terminals, or faulty battery.....

Also, confused why F1 (EFi) blew when riding.....

Time will tell if fully resolved....

I said 'relay' in the post above, but it only had TWO terminals, so it can't be a relay.

Anyone know what it is, or where I can view a full wiring diagram?

The little box I'm referring to is about as big as your finfer nail and attaches to to harness just above the throttle body.

The fiche says its a diode.... anyone have a wiring diagram so i can see why its used?

100 miles today.... No probs, so I can conclude it was either the loose battery post or the corroded terminal on the diode above the throttle body.

Still would like to see a wiring diagram if anyone has one?

Just had a strange one also , except have a spare bike to swap bits from ,
Exact same symptoms , found the start stop red switch part has a loose pin where the yellow wire solders onto (it's the kill wire)
The triangle slide touches the raised pin at he same time as the on pins and there you have a kill situation
I unsoldered the yellow and soldered it to the spare 5th spot where it should have been , also pinned the terminals tight into the plastic from behind with a small wack
Also scratched the other termials clean - all sorted
I wonder how many others have had this gremlin too.

I have recently been experiencing exactly the same intermittent problem.

You will be riding for some time at low revs, open the throttle up full, after 1 or 2 seconds the bike will die, as if starved of fuel, I would back off the throttle, it would recover after 1 or 2 seconds, then I could open the throttle again and there would be no problem. This would happen every 10-15 minutes of riding. The bike was always warm. If you wouldn't back off the throttle it would back fire.

I have been trying to find a solution.

I will replace the spark plug, although it looked fine, no cracks in isolator.
I will replace the micron filter in fuel line at the hose where the fuel line enters the throttle body.
I will check the battery terminals.

Not sure where to go after that. Anyone have any ideas?

Chris, you describe, almost exactly, the same issue I've been fighting on my FX450.
Did you have any other issues after the battery post and diode fix?
Any add'l information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Roger
