1996 FE350 Jetting help

I have a 96 FE350. The bike starts and runs great. The problem I am having is while putting around with low RPM the bike is bogging really bad from no throttle to about half throttle. If I go full throttle it takes off and nearly throws me off. It also pops alot on decel. I am riding with my 7 year old son so all my riding is putting around.

The carb is a Dellort VHSB 38
Main Jet - 185
Pilot Jet - 33
Starting Jet - 50

I cant figure out what needle it has. It has 4 clip positions and is on the 3rd one down. The air screw is a little over 1 full turn out. I live in Idaho and am rididng at around 2500 ft above sea level. I think that I need to change the pilot jet, but I dont know what to change it to. I have read the posts and found the sites that sell the parts, I just dont know what to buy. I am sure I got the bike that the member didibuyapartsbike had. He was getting stator help here on the forum. So any help will be great. I can provide more info if I forgot something, or pics if needed.

Hi
If you problems form closed to 1/2, its in the area of the PJ and needle.

My advice is first before you start changing everything you buy one new needle and needle jet (atomiser), then you can start changing things.
Also check the intake rubber for any cracks, this is not a new bike !

Also

Don't know about your carb, my bikes have the PHM carb.

On PHM carb they used to come with needle K51 and needle jet DR270, and a comon change could be to a K35 and DR266 or K51 and DR266.

Again for your carb I'm not shure, but maybe someone here can help

Your needle is either a K51 or a K33 in your Delorto carb. Engine vibration will cause the needle to wear out and cause jetting issues.

Give Rick at Offroad Boss a all as he may have one in stock to replace your old worn one.

Re: 1996 FE350 Jetting help

can you confirm you have a round slide carb?

I can't find the specs for the 350 anywhere but I have them for the 400 which won't be so far away.

the atomisers on those early ones are the AB type so it is difficult to help set them from afar as I have no experience of them. you could send a PM to 'ned37'. ned may have the details for you.

that flat spot could be tappets or ignition based.

If I was doing the carb I'd get a full kit like the one I sell:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HUSABERG-DELL ... 1125wt_698

but you could have such a worn carb and not even know it. I did a carb 3 years ago for a south African and it took 3 hours work.

regards

The slide is not round, it is flat. I took out my needle last night and I could see some wear on it. I am gonna call Rick at Boss today and see if he might have a new one. I did also find out that it has a 260FN needle jet. Thanks for all the replies so far.

That is the same carb my '96 FE501 had and and I am quite familiar with them. The 260FN needle jet is the same one used for the 501. I did a bit of fine-tuning on mine (even took 2mm off the bottom of the slide to reduce the cut away) to improve things. This carb's mixture screw controls air not fuel - unlike the mixture screws on the round slide Dellortos - and I ended up setting mine about 2-3/4 turns out with a 35 pilot jet. I did try a 262FN needle jet on mine but it ran the best with the 260FN.
