Re: 1996 FE350 Jetting help

I have been talking with Rick over at Boss, he has been helping also. So last night I have some time so I figured I would put the bike back together and start making the adjustments. Got it all put back together and kicked and kicked for a while but it wouldnt even start. Took it back apart and I have got no fuel in the carb, the float was stuck. So I work on it for a minute get the float unstuck, and put it back together. This time I filled the bowl with gas first so it would start easier. Got it all put back together and it fired right up first kick, ran for a minute then died. It wouldnt start again. Took it all apart again and the float was stuck again! Looked it over for quite a while trying to figure out what the problem was. It was then that I finally relized the floats were in upside down. Put it all back together again and it fired right up and ran pretty good for a couple of minutes. I did notice it was puffing out a bit of black smoke when I reved it up. I turned out the AIR screw a little ways and it seemed to go away. Going to go ride this morning and see how it runs. Thanks for all the help this far.

Re: 1996 FE350 Jetting help

Screwed out the air screw another turn or so, and it seems to have helped. Have to see what happens when I get to the hills. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Hi guys.
I seem to be having the same issue with my 96 fe501 as above from zero to half throttle it sputters, backfires and a hand full to ride but as soon as you hit above half it picks up wheelies taking of like a bat out of hell. I can seem to figure out the needle level that I should set at. I have tires full up and no difference. I although have the round barrel dellorto carb.

I'd have go at the fuel screw! It should be in the manual - do you have a copy? Forumdwellers have amassed something of a trove - For links see my signature

Fuel screw currently set at about 2-3/4 to 3 turns is where I find she running very little tiny bit better.

would be better to start a new thread.
pull the top off carb and look for wear at top of needle by clip. if worn at all, replace both needle and needle jet.
