Heat shield...not the header one...the heel one

Has anybody found a source for a heat shield for the exhaust pipe just behind your boot heal .....not terribly concerned about my boot but I am adding a Big Loop bag and the web straps go through that area ....want them to be cool, not melted. I have an FE570S , (2011). I know you can add the frame protectors that come with an exhaust shield for the boot area but surely somebody out there makes one or maybe a KTM one would fit...thx guys.

I have the same issue with the same application (Giant Loop). The plastic frame guards are hardly a solution.
I bought some and incorporated some pipe wrap but there is still sufficient heat to melt the nylon strap.
The frame guards are also incredibly flimsy and should be black anodized, forged aluminum. How's your 570
otherwise?

It's great otherwise....only got it a couple weeks ago so have not been able to get it out for long periods of time as I have a couple other bikes as well. Just trying to add some space for cameras , water, stuff like that. I love the handling and performance of the Berg.

I haven't found a decent heat shield for that area yet and have thought of buying one of the aluminum header guards, cutting it down some and installing it in that area. I squeeze the bike a lot with my heal area and I have actually melted the plastic frame guard completely off.

You know guys, you have given me the incentive to look into making something for this problem.
I'm in the aluminum fabricating business and this might be do-able. I'll let you know.

Barshoe, Let me know if you come up with something....I will be first on the list to buy one. I'm thinking it needs to cover a reasonable amount of the pipe especially if you are tying web staps around the frame in that area...like 6-7 inches.

I'm going to start with a partially modified version of the original, then grow it from there. I'll let you know.

Re: Heat shield...not the header one...the heel one

Hi,

I have the same situation with my Giant Loop on a 570S . Search brought me here. Have you guys tried anything yet? I just went for my first shake down ride of about 20 miles with the GL installed. No melting as yet but I have a trip coming soon and it does seem close. I have some stick on heat shield stuff that I might try to apply to the webbing itself.

There is about .5 of an inch clearance when I took this pic. The black stuff on the pipe is from the rubber on my riding glove fingertip (doh!) not from the webbing.

Would be nice if Flatland Racing would make one of these for the Husabergs...
