From what I have read here and elsewhere, it would seem that the stock can on these bikes, while quiet, is restrictive and as a result exacerbates the heat under the tank issue. A lot of guys have put the FMF pipe on and report their bikes run cooler.
I don't want a loud exhaust and I also don't really want to buy a slip on either. The end piece and tiny very restrictive looking screen disc "thing" are definitely coming out. After doing that, I plan to ride it and see. I may take the sleeve off the stock can and have a looksie. Got a pop rivet gun and I am not afraid to use it
If I do go into the pipe, I will take pics and post them up with any mods / results that occur.
Really, as long as the stock can is, a 2" perforated straight through tube with glass pack and a FMF turbine vane spark arrestor on the end would be perfect. No need to overthink this thing...
