New Owner FX 470 (2002)..Battery Replacement Question.

Hi All,

I picked up the bike yesterday and it needs a new battery. I looked at the bike quickly and did not see an easy way to get the battery out. Is the best way to remove the rear shock and remove from the rear? Yes, I am a total newb with these bikes. I am hoping to sell my Honda once I have done all the work necessary to make this machine good to go for Colorado riding.

ON a different note, I also have a noise comming from the head. It sounds like a cam bearing or bearing going out in the head. I'll post questions about that later in another forum as soon as I get the electrical issues taken care of. I have not even taken the cover off yet, but the bike does run.

Best Regards,

Thomas

I remove the starter and then you have good access to the battery box. Some pull or loosen the rear shock.

The cam follower/ rocker arm bearings are prone to rapid wear. If it has not been fitted with the updated 2003 rocker arm assemblies now is probably the time.

Use a YTZ7s Yuasa battery and always keep it plugged into a battery charger such as an Optimate III.

A ton has been written about the 01-02 models use the search function and also read "the doc".

welcome thomas

you have joined us at a vey fortuitous time for you and perhaps you can tell us where in Co you're from?

actually, to remove the battery box all you need to do is take out the centre and silncer sections of the 'orst and the battery box will slip across the bck there as nice as you like.

regards

Taffy

You guys rock!!!!

Thanks for the quick response. I cant wait to get home tonight. I am from Grand Junction, CO. I think I am the only guy in town with a berg. Y'all can check my facebook page. Look for Thomas Hundtoft on facebook. I have open access for all to see my photos etc. Thanks again Taffy, and Husabutt for the info.

I read the document on the common failure items for my particular bike. Any advice on where to purchase parts online? My nearest dealer is in Gunnison and I like to keep Gunnison in my rear view mirror in the winter (Brrrrrrrr, cold). Fortunately for me, I have become fairly proficient at fixing bikes because I am also a Honda owner (250X). My kids both have KTMs so I get to dabble in the 2 stroke world too. Riding 3-4 times a week makes for lots of maintenance.

Regards,

Thomas

I see that. What is the exchange rate these days. Last I looked it was nearly $2 us for 1 pound. I guess I do a quick conversion.

Gunnison has a great Husaberg dealer. I'd be getting my parts for sure from Fritz if I was that close. StoveGuy mentioned Buzzard (Ron) in Montrose. He is also a very good mechanic and a great guy.

Yes, there is a good dealer in Gunni. As a rule of thumb in Colorado the further you go up hill the realestate prices go up as well. Meaning they have to charge more for parts to pay the bills. I go to Gunni a couple times a month and if I have a need I will stop by to see if Fritz has it. I know a shop here in town has tried to get a Husaberg dealership and they were denied (dang, no close parts). I will probably end up ordering some of those economical parts from Taffy.

Regards,

Thomas
