Stock digital speedometer is pretty handy

I finally sat down and read carefully the owner's manual instructions on operation of the Husaberg/ktm electronic speedometer. I hate reading these type of instructions like programming a VCR or setting a hand wrist watch display........but I need to learn what the stock unit can do because I ride the Fe450e in an enduro next week and I don't have the time or money to install a full enduro computer. Turns out I won't need one, well at least untill I have cash to afford one as the Stock unit has two chronographs/stop watch functions and two trip meters incluidng TR2 which is easiliy resetable......so with the Husaberg speedo, it's read out of MPH, the clock, chronograph, resetable trip miles and my roll chart and my back up wrist watch.......I have all I need to do my timekeeping for the event.

Bottom line that stock unit is easy to use and I'm happy with it, easy to scroll thru the functions, reset and use them for enduro timekeeping. The only better thing an enduro computer would do is display all the functions together, rather then having to reach down and scroll thru them and the enduro computers have various pace alarms too which is like cheating having an alrms that tell you to go faster or slower. For the few enduros each year I run, the stock unit and my roll chart are just fine and dandy.

Yes, they are very handy. I like them so much I am currently trying to addapt one to my 02 300EXC. Much nicer than the Panoram's, and with a thumb switch.

Just out of curiosity, do either of you know what it would cost to buy one of these aftermarket to adapt over to one of the older bikes? I could probably call a dealer and ask but I already have the Panoram computer on my bike now and don't need one of these at the moment. Have you guys ever seen one going on ebay?

I have been paying around $200 for them off ebay for the whole setup (used). New they are over $500 I believe, of course they say KTM, but every once and awhile a Berg one will come up. They appear to be the same unit for the most part.

I'm just about to fit a '06 speedo to my '02 FS.
Got all the necessary parts last week...

Everything was packed in these strange orange
cardboard boxs and hell, the stuff is quite
expensive.

The speedo was about 190 Euros. (200$)
Total sum (incl. '06 turn signals): 380 Euros!!

Enterprising people those Austrians...

Well I guess I will just stick to my Panoram computer... For that much $$$ Im sure you could get yourself on heck of a nice unit but mine will do just fine. Thanks for the info fellas. As always... take care.

My 03 400 has the switch fitted for the speedo( like a triangle with 3 buttons) apparantly it was a extra on 03 & standard on 04's. My question is, how does it work? all mine seems to do is that the right hand button turns it on & thats it! is it knackered i wonder?

Download the 04 Owners Manual, it has a good write up on using the switch.
