I will take off the rocker cover box off and have a look at the decompressor
When you say instal 04 cam auto decompressor device ,Do you mean the whole cam aswell. Sounds a big job for my limited knowledge EEK.
Do you have any thoughts on the rusty Stator ,Is it ok to sand it clean. It is currently charging the battery at 14.59v at medium revs
Yes, the entire cam. It is O.K. to sand the rust off with fairly fine grit sandpaper. I have used 220 grit dry paper or finer. Afterwards you could clean the metal with acetone or lacquer thinner or just blow it off with compressed air. Keep it dry in there as moisture is the enemy of the SEM stator. Dry the stator cavity out after every wash. Some spray it with WD-40, others have coated the stator with petroleum jelly. Wipe off the excess with a towel.

The 04 updated cam and new style decomp worked so much better than previous attempts (89-03) that Husaberg then eliminated the kick start activated decomp. Once on my 05 when I took the rocker cover off the decomp was just flopping around, having no effect. I had never noticed any starting issue. I can only attribute my good fortune to the newer (04-0 eight) cam profile. It is necessary to remove the cam to re-pretension or replace the decomp return spring.

The 2003 model was not known to be a problem starter but as Ned has pointed out the decomp is a wear item. Too much exhaust valve clearance will reduce the effectiveness of the decomp. If your decomp is worn out some have placed a tiny spot of weld to build up the area. You can use a 04 -0 eight decomp with your cam if you want to. The cam may or may not need to be modified a bit by machining a little of the shoulder off. No big deal but for the same price of having it done you could probably purchase a updated cam.
