Ebay stator and CDI protection

Hello,

So, on my very cheap Craigslist berg the stator is out (It's a 2001 FS400). I get infinite resistance on the red and black wires. I would get mine rewound by Sparks or someone, but I don't want to sink too much money into this bike since I have no info on the history behind it and how/if it was maintained. It looks good so far however...

On ebay there are some $70 stators that say they work:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Alternator-...Z/202718121931

That one to be exact. They look like electrex knock-offs or something and maybe I could protect the coils with better epoxy or something?

But I've read that the unregulated voltage coming off the stator can damage the CDI if it goes over 300v. I've also read Zaga's solution to this by using a 280v 3w Zener diode that grounds the excess voltage.

Anyways, my questions are: Has anyone used one of those Ebay stators? is 300v the magic amount that kills CDIs? And would a 200v diode also work since I cannot find a 280v zener diode anywhere. Or is there another solution to keep the CDI protected?

Thank you!

thatis very cheap. looks real enough.....

if it were an electrex stator, the old ones that gave to many ohms are long gone now. try not to repeat old news like it is this week. I'm no fan of electrex - I sell their stuff but I certainly have a love harte relationship with the importers..

they are now good. OK?

I’m I’m sorry I didn’t mean to repeat any questions already answered, but I did do a fair bit of research before asking this and I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for.
