09' FE450 no start - missing spark

Hey guys, I just installed a new battery along with a few other parts (healight tail light), and I have a no start now. No spark at the spark plug wire, but smells like gas at the tail pipe.
Any ideas where to start looking?

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you tap the switch ?

start with small things

- Get a new spark plug
- Unscrew the spark plug cap from the wire inspect look for corrosion cut 1/4'' off screw it back on
- Try starting in the dark the cap has been known to fail and the spark arcs to the engine case.
- Make sure the battery terminals are tight and free of corrosion
- check the negative terminal at the frame clean and use die electric grease
- check the fuses during hook up of the new battery something could have burned out

keep us posted

There's definitely fuel, no problem there. I hear the pump prime, and smell fuel out the tail pipe. I put a screwdriver from the spark plug wire and looked for a spark, but no dice, so I'm not replacing the spark plug. Something is causing a no spark condition. I'm going to check all of the fuses with a multimeter later, but all of the fuses looked good visually. I took the sub frame off again to get at the battery and look for broken wire or loose connections, but didn't see anything obvious.
There did appear to be some corrosion on the bottom of the fuse panel wires, but nothing crazy. I'll check for voltage at various places if I find all of the fuses are good. A

Any common issues I'm not checking???

have a look at the black with yellow stripe wires behind the headlight, if one or both is grounded you will have no spark with everything else functioning.

I had them hooked up to an ignition switch kit from sicass racing, but took it off to see if that was the issue. I'll check for continuity to ground on them to be sure a wire isn't broken somewhere to be safe.

Confirmed no continuity to ground on either yellow/black wire behind the headlight.
Is it normal to only have power at the fuel pump fuse when the engine isn't running?

wires

your kill switch may act up If your sicass ignition is not working properly or if you took it off. Mine didn't work for a whole season before I found the culprit, was still able to kill with the key. culprit being a corroded worn connector.
As bergsl said check the yellow/ black wire for any loose corroded, pinched, cut, knicked wires.
A friend dropped his bike on a stick, the stick actually got between the tank and frame pulling out the 3 yellow wires heading from the loom/battery to the kokusan. Had to pull the tank off just to see if that's what had happened. There was no spark as well.

My yuasa battery terminal also got damaged once from ovetightening, The lead is real soft, be careful not to overtighten.

Where does the stock kill switch go to? The wiring looks like it runs under the frame somewhere near the gas tank area. I took off the gas tank but still don't see a connector. I was going to remove the kill switch from the equation, but I can't find the darn connector.

One more question: When the kill switch is depressed does it just cut off spark to the bike but not fuel? If that's the case I have a feeling it's a problem with the kill switch.
