No headlight and 12V on horn.

Hi!
I am having some electrical problems with my FE450 2004.
In the beginning of last summer the headlight worked fine, but I noticed when it got darker outside that the headlight had stopped working.
So now I'm trying to figure out what is causing this.
I've checked with a multimeter at the plug and no voltage.

1. Must the engine be running for the headlight to work?
2. What can be a good guess to first look into?

Another strange thing I noticed is that the horn has 12V on both connections, as far as I thought one should be ground and one should be live, or?
Now I have constant 12V on both connections to the signal, but still it works when I press the signal button.
3. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance!
Fredrik

Best bet is to get the wiring diagram, they are not too complicated, and follow the wires. You'll eventually find where the power is lost. Or maybe the bulb is shot?

Yes, the headlight and taillight only work when running. They run on ac power generated by the stator.

The switch has an off position, and low/high. If no voltage at the 3 pin connector to the bulb, take the switch apart and check for corrosion. Then for voltage there.

Not sure if the bike will run with a blown fuse, but the lights won't..

Bulb is ok, and I also checked for voltage on the socket.
I do have the wiring diagram and I've followed all cables and did a visual inspection and couldn't see any damaged wires...

The fuse is ok, I actually blew it when I took the connection from the horn and it touched the mount so it grounded (since both connections have constans 12V). So I have a new fuse in now.
I will clean and check the light switch, engine on I suppose.

Well, I've cleaned off the little dirt that was in the switch.
Engine off I could measure 12V on a red wire, suppose that is correct.
And I'm no expert on wiring diagrams but as far as I could tell it should be some voltage on the yellow wire on the light switch (when engine is on)
So I kicked the engine on but no voltage on the yellow wire (measured with instrument set to AC).
So, could it be the wires coming from the stator that is the problem?

Well, I took off the stator and examined it and found that 2 wires had come off.
So I soldered them back on to their connections and voila, headlight now works!
