2002 FE 400e electical

Hey party people.
I just picked up a FE 400e and absolutely love it. However i am trying to chase down some wiring issues that it has. Somebody got ahold of the harness and made a real mess of it. Is there anywhere that i can find a wiring schematic for my bike or one like it. I have searched the forum and found a couple of old posts with links that no longer work, at least for me anyways. Any help is much appreciated. Keep calm and BRAAAAP on!

Re: 2002 FE 400e electical

I am trying to figure out my brake light circuit. My machine (tentatively nick named "the desert fox") doesn't have the OEM brake switches. I decided to improvise using pressure switches that replace the banjo bolts. From the brake light side of the rear bulb a wire runs to a plug by the rear brake which then splits from that plug and runs to the plug that terminates at the plug by the front brake lever. What loses me is that the wiring on the other side of both plugs by the front and rear brake lever are accompanied by red wires that are connected to each other. Logic would dictate that the red wire should be a12V power wire to run the brake circuit. For me that's not the case, the red wire is connected to ground. The red wire is currently connected to a yellow wire that is coming from the stator. The bike does run now. Should that red wire be connected to something else other than the yellow stator wire?

Re: 2002 FE 400e electical

Hi Guys,

Got me a 1999 FE 400e just recently. Cant seem to make the e-start work. When I push the e-start button, the speed of the starter seems not enough to make it run, but when I use the kick start, it pops out instantly with just one kick. I have a newly replaced YUASA 12 battery installed. Thanks in advance for the help

Its an auto decomp issue. Adjust your valves/tappets and make sure your timing is good and your mixture isnt too rich. If it still doesnt work, get the valve cover off, and take a look at the auto decomp lobe. If you are lucky then you just have to change the spring like I did, If not then your lobe is worn and can't lift the valve to release the compression. At this point you can either buy a new lobe or weld a blob on the current one. The later one doesnt last long.
