How would I wire an Acumen PD8 shift light?

Hi, as above really. I think I want a shift light to stop me over revving (used to a 16,500 limiter with a rev counter) for my FS450. How difficult is it to wire this and is it even possible.

I think you need to hold the revs at 3,000 for it to figure out what time the lights come on but how could I do that. Best way I can think is to figure out gear ratios and final drive and do it at a certain mph in the right gear but not sure if you need to press buttons to programme it which wouldn't be great while moving along lol. Here's the one I'm thinking of.

Or is there a better solution. Apart from a Trailtech Vapour or something as I really like the layout and features of the standard clock.

Thanks, Carl

Edit: Also, what revs does the 450 make peak power and what is the very max I should rev it to?

the whole - what does it rev too / what should i rev too has been discussed before. from what i recall it's never been bottomed out.

there will surely be someone out there who has installed a shift light but im not aware of anyone.

could be you may have to go it alone and provide us with your findings.

Yeah if I do go for one I will probably do a write up to help anyone else out. I've read about one person using a light and reflective tape on the flywheel or something to figure revs out. Anyone got any ideas on this?

Only other way I can think of: For car MOTS's, the machine that checks the emissions and also knows the revs. Is there anything similar to that that can plug into the bike somewhere if you know what I mean. Not sure how it works though.

Thanks, Carl

Right, I have found another one that doesn't need the engine to be revved to set it.

I like the look of the Shift-I but I'm unsure whether it can be used. If it can I think it will be much better than the acumen as I don't need to find the right revs. It says:

How do I know if it will work on my vehicle?
Shift-I should work with all vehicles with a digital tacho signal, and great effort has been placed into designing sophisticated digital filters to read a wide range of tacho signals. If you have a cable driving the tacho gauge, then Shift-I is not compatible.

So does a FS450 have a digital tacho signal?

Thanks, Carl

no. the tacho is the rev counter. so unless your bike comes with one fitted you aint going to have one.

from lookin at your link all the bikes listed on their site are road bikes that come with rev counters as standard so they'll have a tacho feed.

Looks like its gonna be pretty difficult to sort then. Is there not a way to power one off the coil or anything? Finally got it insured today and I keep thinking about if I'm over revving but then I'm going for 7th gear at 80 so I can't be.
