FI Fail Safe if temperature off limit???HELP

hey Guys,

Need some help here, after ride on my FE390 on some tight trails the bike got to hot...lost some water, and cause i put a longer breather hose down i didnt see how much water i loose

So after a while the FI starts to blink 1 long and 2 short ( temperature coolant sensor ) ,so i stoped and after 2 min i started again ( no water nearby and long way home )...rode it slow to reach a safe spot till the bikes started to bog down ....so im asking if there is a fail safe sensor that shuts the injection off to prevent mechanical injuries???

all good after 12 hours rest, new anti freeze coolant and no strange noises....im guessing all is good BUT just to be on the safe side any advice would be great!

Thanks,
Alex

Why not fit a fan and never have to worry about it again?

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question though.

Yeah, I'm afraid mine boils even on cooler days if I'm riding really tight stuff. They should really come with them.

I tested this awhile ago in this old post Vapor lock on 2010 390?? (page 5) :
I disconnecting my Coolant Temp Sensor and as a test I added a variable Resistor in it's place.
The Temp Sensor changes resistance based on the following temperatures:
-30C -22F 22.86K ~ 27.94K
-20C -4F 13.50K ~ 16.50K
-10C 14F 8.24K ~ 10.08K
0C 32F 5.17K ~ 6.31K
10C 14F 3.33K ~ 4.07K
20C 68F 2.21K ~ 2.70K
30C 86F 1.49K ~ 1.83K
40C 104F 1.04K ~ 1.27k
50C 122F 730 ~ 892
60C 140F 526 ~ 642
70C 158F 385 ~ 471
80C 176F 286 ~ 350
90C 194F 216 ~ 264
100C 212F 165 ~ 202
110C 230F 128 ~ 156
120C 248F 100 ~ 122

I set my variable resistor to the following:
100 ohms so the ECU thinks the bike is 120C (248F) and the bike started no issues.
I then set it to the following resistances and each time the bike started:
90 ohms
80 ohms
70 ohms
60 ohms

So I do not believe the ECU is shutting down because the engine is too hot.

Regards,
Davo.

Re: FI Fail Safe if temperature off limit???HELP

Out riding and my friends FX450 dies in the trail he had a previous problem and changed the fuel pump to ca cycle, changed the fuel filters , had the injector professionally cleaned, last thing was swapped the spark plug and that was the solution from the previous poor running problem . While apart he wrapped the mid pipe and put reflective heat tape on the tank. Time to tear it up we were only about 10 minutes into a ride when the bike stopped in the trail we decided to turn back the bike would start but when throttle was opened just past 1/4 it would die. While on the road he noticed the FI light blink 1 long two short. This is the coolant temperature sensor he looks at the water pump and the coolant drain screw is missing it must have come loose and fell out. Luckily we were not far the coolant was refilled and bike ran perfect. The ECU may have some type of limp mode built in. Davo tested it to 120' but this thing had all the coolant dumped out and definitely hit a higher temperature not enough to do damage luckily .
