Re: Keep the crud out of the weep hole

Excellent tip Dale! You inspired me. I have not even ridden my new bike off road yet and it already has your weep hole mod. Even managed to get the tubing in Husaberg blue

I have a bunch of tubing left over, so I am sharing the wealth. Some guys form Canada on KTM Talk are getting some from me. Spreading the joy you know...

Re: Keep the crud out of the weep hole

I can't find a piece of 1/8" tubing either, 5/32" is the smallest I could locate in any hobby shop in western Illinois or eastern Iowa. Would someone like to sell me a piece also??
thanks

Which tubing is that, the metal stuff or the other? I'd love to grab some, I'm thinking of doing this mod soon!

I found grinding point on a 1/8 rivet worked well. It only required finger pressure to lock in tight.

Re: Keep the crud out of the weep hole

thanks for the great info guys, finally sourced the materials and did it yesterday. took ages to find a hobby store that stocked the brass tube and hose for the fuel systems on model planes. finally an inexpensive mod, $1.30 for the brass tube and the hose thrown in for free (in husaberg blue ).

if it's any help, i found it was much easier to install after filing the edges down on the brass tube. i could then just place it in the hole, then tap it in with a long screwdriver. didn't have to take any parts of the bike this way to get access.

pics have already been included, but took this one from further out in case any mechanical noobs (like me) don't actually know where this weephole is.

Re: Keep the crud out of the weep hole

Thank you, this is a really helpful topic!

I took my 2010 FE 450 water pump housing off to check what direction the Husaberg factory installed the seal. Yep, it was installed backwards, with the shaft retaining spring facing inwards. It was very easy to remove the seal using a slightly curved pick tool, carefully inserted where the shaft meets the inner seal.

Not a lot of crud behind the water pump seal, but there was definitely some very fine brown silt (dust). I'm in Arizona, so this is common to our riding areas. Silt is super-fine, and is probably worse for your bike than sand.

I cleaned everything up, installed a fresh seal (in the correct direction), and also did the weep hole tubing modification. I ran a slightly longer piece of 1/8" hose, and used a small line clip to keep the hose in place on one of the forward case bolts.

By the way, I was able to find 1/8" pipe and vinyl tubing at Ace Hardware.

Thanks again for all the help!
