2012 Dakar - Husaberg Rallye Racing Australia !

Aussie team plans for 2012 Dakar Rally

Husaberg Rallye Racing Australia will field a team of 2 top Australian rallye racers in Dakar 2012. Rod Faggotter and David Schwarz are putting together plans to contest the 2012 Dakar Rally.

Two of Australia’s most respected and successful endurance riders, Faggotter and Schwarz will ride Husaberg FE450 motorcycles in the world’s most gruelling off-road race, which starts next January.

David Schwarz is a 2 time Dakar finisher, Dakar 2005 David came 3rd 450cc class and was a consistent top 20 runner in Dakar 2009 with 12th outright his best stage result. David is also top 10 Australian Safari finisher 8 times, multiple class winner, 3rd Outright Safari 2004 and was 4th outright 2010 Safari.

While the 2012 Dakar will be Rod Faggoter's first, Rod has had back to back wins in the Condo 750 Rally in 2010 and 2011 and 3rd outright Australasian Safari 2008.

The route for the 2012 Dakar Rally will see competitors starting in Argentina on January 1, before travelling through Chile, and then finishing in Peru 14 days later – a distance of over 9000 kilometres.

Well it has started at last, saw Tony, Bryan and Kelvin off at the Perth domestic airport on Sunday night, first stop Sydney then its Buenos Aires 14hrs later.

The boys are spending this week getting the bikes, 4x4 Prado service car and all the gear, tyers, spares etc out of Argentina customs, final check over of the bikes and gear packed.

Then they get to chill in BA over Xmas weekend till the tornado of activity hits next week !

Update:

Good old Qantas, departs 1 hr late then parks up in Santiago for 6hrs due to an ash cloud somewhere !

So the boys were stuck for awhile brushing up on some Spanish lessons while sitting it out in Santiago airport waiting for the flight to Buenos Aires. Due to arrive in BA shortly

The bikes are in the warehouse ready to unpack

Just got confirmation back from the shipping agant in Buenos Aires that the bikes are sitting in the warehouse ready for the boys to unpack them

The sea container with the 4x4 Prado service car, tyres, spares, tools etc arrived in Buenos Aires on Saturday and is still with Argentina customs, should be out and in the warehouse by the time the boys wake up on today their time.

Just got back from Wanneroo Motorcycles, Matt Gould the dealer has kindly lent us for Dakar his factory Husaberg Diagnostic unit and laptop so we can programme and fault find anything to do with the engine management system on the team Dakar FE450's.

Great stuff Matt very appreciated, these units are only available to dealers and cost a mint.

Now along with the phone a friend hot line numbers to the Husaberg Australia, Valley Force Husaberg and Wanneroo Motorcycles tech guru's there will be no issues we can't deal with in the bivouac !

The last couple of days the boys have been busy unloading the sea container with 4x4 Assistance car and spares etc and the bike crate.

All is going well and its a huge relief to know every thing has arrived safely, now it's just getting the gear organised for the move down to Mar del Plata on Tues 27th, give the bikes a run, then chill over Christmas weekend.

The boys are in high spirits and enjoying taking in Buenos Aires when not working on the rally gear.

So all's good thus far, Plan A is on track

Hi Gazza,

I have just finished a book called "To Dakar And Back” by Lawrence Hacking.... It gives one a good insight into what a phenomenal task it is to pull off a project like this and what it takes just to get a start in the Dakar rally... Recommended reading.

I have just been on the facebook page having a look around very impressed with the preparation, there has been some serious work done on the bikes.

I hope all goes well for the team and they get some results that reflect the work they have put into this.

I see my old mate Kelvin is part of the team, he's a legend definately a handy guy to have along on a mission like this.....just don't let him on the bikes

Some great photos, guys do yourselves a favour and have a look.

Who are the riders?

The boys have finished checking the bikes over and taken them for a test ride, all is good. Also the gear is ready to shift down to Mar del Plata on Tues 27th.

Ronnie and Carl fly in from Sweden on Tues AM then is up to Delta Dock to pick up Ronnies bike and the Swedes Dodge Ram 4x4 (this is the 2nd team Assistance car) and meet up with Manuel Lucchese and we all head down to Mar del Plata on the afternoon of the 27th.
