2010 Tuareg Rally on an Husaberg Report

yesterday i returned from Marocco from the 2010 Tuareg Rally. ( http://www.tuareg-rallye.com)

I had a great time riding my 2009 husa through the great planes of marocco and finally 3 days in the great dunes of Merzouga. It was my first experience in the dunes, and cetrtainly not the last!

i prepared the husa with a trailtech headlight kit, in case of darkness, and a larger tank ( the new Safari front tank) Both worked great! furthermore i created an extra watertank out of the subframe. for the rest the husa was standard. it did all the 8 stages perfectly, but for one... the 4th stage, in the dunes, my upsidedown sensor went crazy. every time i rode up a steep dune, the sensor would think i fell and the bik stopped running. It took me 3 hrs to do the last 10 km's... apart from a broken gascable this was my only problem. i did miss a large part of the next day but was able to disconnect the sensor and continue the race. The husa is rallyproof!

due to a lot of penalties i could not get futher than a 116th place out of 180 riders.[attachment=1:216f3lab]tua2.gif[/attachment:216f3lab]

Welcome back JW. I expected a higher end position for you.

The problem with the sensor is new to me. But then I never been in the dunes before . . . yet.
Difficult to remove the sensor?

it takes a lot of time to find the problem ( unless you call the dealer)
you can find the sensor under the tank in my case this means removing the aqualine tank, removing the saddle, removing part of the subframe, removing the tank, pulling the connector, and then everything in reverse to remount everything. For me 2 hours, for a mechanic 1 hr.

if the dunes get you, they get you hard.... i spent almost 45 minutes stuck under my bike on a dune...had to dig my self out. i spent 30 mins walking down and up a sandhole i didnt want t ride in , because i dropped my helmet... it took 2,5 + hrs to do 10 km's with the broken sensor, falling over 20 times, that wears you out completely... then my gashandle got stuck, so it was fullthrotlle or nothing...

and i got over 40 hours in penalties the whole week missing CP's , missing almost a whole stage, etc.

still loved it!
